I was a little disappointed but I think I will read her book. The positive reviews here seem to be from people who read her book. My disappointment is mostly because not many horses were used...especially horses who would be new to having people using this method. Seeing people working with other people wasn't too interesting for me. But I will read her book. |

I just watched this and I'd like to learn more but this dvd did not sell me on her method. It just skimmed the method. |

I enjoyed this video. I feel it is a good follow up to her book. Each of the rituals have their place and you have to THINK which one would be appropriate to apply and when. She goes over this in the video. If an exercise is not appropriate, you would not apply it, such as chasing a shy or peaceful horse off his food. However, if your horse was charging you for food or being pushy, you'd have occasion to maintain your leadership authority by not allowing him to his food until you've given him permission (once he is quiet, respectful and peaceful). Doing this develops respect for you in the horse's eyes. I love how she explains why in her interview on natural horse network website. This is just one example of how this method teaches you how to be a thinking horseman who acts with feel and not by rote. |

Fascinating after reading her book,

After watching this DVD, then reading Resnick's book (Naked Liberty) to learn more about her experiences living with a wild herd, her Waterhold Rituals make a lot of sense to me. She explains the difference between the behaviors of a dominant horse and those of a leader which I'd never considered separately before. I've only given it 4 stars because I wanted it to be longer and address specific issues horses tend to have, so I'm now following her blog at carolynresnickblog.com which has been helpful. |

She's a nice person,

She's nice but there were moments like when she'd act aggressive to the horse to get him away from his food. I want my horses to be comfortable and know that I'm watching over them when they are eating. I don't want them to be worried about me coming up and chasing them off. This is aggressive behaviour. I would want to be able to groom while they are eating and at the same time, I feel safe enough that they know I'm there and they will watch where they put their body, so not to step or run into my space. Being quiet, content and feeling safe is my goal.
It wasn't what I was expecting. |
