Dancing With Horses

The Art of Body Language
For master horse trainer Klaus Ferdinand Hempfling, work with horses is comparable to dancing. The primary obligation of riding, he explains, is to maintain the horse's own natural, powerful, and elegant movement under saddle. Improper training compromises the horse's naturally joyful steps with confusing commands; a horse will move with extraordinary grace if only the request is effectively communicated. In this DVD, Hempfling teaches us the language of horses. Advising that even the slightest movement conveys powerful information, Hempfling shows how to use body language to communicate. He makes clear that when the trainer uses language the horse can understand, the horse's movement "will always be beautiful, from the first lesson on".

A must have, Sunday 05 July, 2009

I also have this video. You can't put into words what he does, but he reaches deep inside and goes to the horse's world rather than them come into ours. There is no control. The horse is allowed to express his opinions and that's the only way to show that he has a right to feel and then the relationship c an begin. Letting go of control, the horse allows us to come in and been shown a world that is beautiful, peaceful and full of harmony.

Like a coffee table book...., Wednesday 01 July, 2009

I liked this film as a well put together "coffee table book". It has beauty and inspiration but not a great deal of detail to be gleaned for instruction. Hempfling's approach is based on his own unique personal philosophy, energy and incredible sensitivity to the horse. What he does is without doubt inspiring but this particular DVD is not a good teaching tool. So enjoy the film for it's beauty and be prepared to read his book for instruction.

The last dance is the best., Tuesday 09 June, 2009

From riding bareback and bridleless in a herd to establishing trust and a connection with horses that others have given up on, Hempfling's self-confidence comes out in the form of a laser focus and quiet intensity that calms and draws horses to him. The emotional distance one horse especially (toward the end of DVD) travels in the short time he works with it brought tears to my eyes. It was so, so sweet.
